A coaching case study with Coach Klaus-Dieter Boese:

He gives us an insight into his coaching philosophy, a typical coaching process and he explains why the support between the sessions is the most important factor for long-lasting client success.

How would you describe yourself and your Coaching?

“I do my thing” is my motto in life, and my clients notice that from my empathy, individual and authentic coaching. Combined with my efficiency, life experience, creativity, and a good portion of humor, we create long-lasting sustainable results.

What’s the WHY behind a client’s goal? For me, the question of motivation is a key to personal success.

The best thing about my work is not only the lasting success that my clients achieve, but the smile on their faces after a session is one of the best things about my work.

What is your philosophy and understanding of Coaching?

How do I imagine my life in the here and now? What are my expectations?

The personal resources and situation of each client must not be disregarded. This requires a close look at the personality with all its facets, skills, and motives. But also the question of purpose and values is important and adds spice to life.

The right ingredients are crucial for the result. From my point of view, creativity, and motivation as well as a large portion of openness, not to indulge in regulations and limitations in one’s thoughts, are part of it.

The focus is also on creating a positive feeling for the client. You can accomplish this if they are aware of their successes, strengths, and resources.

Let’s take a look behind the scenes: How does a typical coaching process look like?

Before going on the coaching journey, we clarify the request and goals in a complimentary online session. If the chemistry is right, we start preparing for the trip. This can be done in person or online. Whatever the client prefers.

At the beginning of our journey together we have two blank sheets of paper. We write down the word “START” on one of them and the word “GOAL” on the other.

At the „Start-Sheet“ we determine the current situation, clarify the destination, and determine the route with its individual stages and milestones.

Now it’s time to pack our stuff.

Which resources, experiences, skills, competencies, strengths, other life experiences, and circumstances influence the desired travel destination (goal) or the journey itself. During our trip, we constantly compare the route with our initial plan. New impressions, experiences, and know-how are integrated and, if necessary, the route is adapted to the destination.

At the end of our journey, the goal has been accomplished. If the client wants, we stay in contact a little longer. This is how we make sure that the results are long-lasting and the coaching was a sustainable success.

In your opinion, what challenges arise if clients are coached only in sessions without being supported between them?

The real-life implementation of the work that has been done during the sessions is the greatest challenge. Clients leave the sessions highly motivated and then come back to reality.

Everyday life and their work have their own requirements and priorities. This very quickly leads to the fact that personal concerns and goals take a back seat, tasks cannot be integrated into everyday life and the motivation for change decreases over time.

For the coaching to be successful it is therefore particularly important to support clients between the sessions.
